MS-Windows OS for PCs:

• MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System – 1981): –

“MS-DOS” was originally developed by Microsoft for IBM; MS-DOS was the standard operating system for IBM capable personal computers.

• Windows 1.0 (1985): –

“Windows 1.0” was launched on 20 November, 1985. It is the first Graphical User Interface (GUI) base MS-DOS.

• Windows 2.0 (1987): –

“Windows 2.0” was launched on 9 December, 1987. This version was launched some additional features, Microsoft Word & Excel.

• Windows 3.0 (1990): –

“Windows 3.0” was launched in May, 1990. This version was launched some additional features like Sound card, CD-ROM and multimedia feature.

• Windows NT 3.1 – 4.0 (1993 – 1996): –

“Windows NT (New Technology) 3.1” was released on 27 July, 1993 and “Windows NT 4.0” was released on 24 August, 1996.

• Windows 95 (1995): –

“Windows 95” was released on 24 August, 1995. This version was launched some features like ‘Start’ button & ‘Taskbar’. In this time user can get upgrade MS-DOS to Windows 95.

• Windows 98 (1998): –

“Windows 98” was released on 25 June, 1998. It’s main additional feature it supported Internet Explorer browser (web browser).

• Windows 2000 (2000): –

On 17 February, 2000 Microsoft released “Windows 2000” or “W2K”. It is uses for basically business desktop and laptop system to run software application, connect to internet etc.

• Windows ME – Millennium Edition (2000): –

The “Windows Millennium Edition” also called “Windows ME” was introduced on 14 September, 2000. “Windows ME” was the last version of windows that run on MS-DOS.

• Windows XP (2001): –

“Windows XP” released on 25 October, 2001. Windows XP is the combination of Windows NT/ 2000 & Windows 95/98/ME.

• Windows Vista (2006): –

Microsoft released “Windows Vista” for corporation on November 30, 2006 but public availability on 30 January, 2007. Vista gave better data security then all of its previous version.

• Windows 7 (2009): –

Microsoft released “Windows 7” on 22 October, 2009. Windows 7 is the most popular Operating System in the world because its many features & it is more user friendly then other OS.

• Windows 8 (2012): –

“Windows 8” was released on 26 October, 2012. Windows 8 will replace the more traditional Microsoft Windows OS look and it is also use for touchscreen devices.

• Windows 8.1 (2013): –

“Windows 8.1” was released on 17 October, 2013.

• Windows 10 (2015): –

“Windows 10” was released on 29 July, 2015 and it was the successor of Windows 8. Windows 10, which comes with Cortana, a digital personal assistant like Apple’s Siri and the Web Browser of Microsoft EDGE, which replaced the Internet Explorer web browser. Microsoft also announced that Windows 10 is the last version of Windows.

Microsoft Windows Operating System For Servers: –

Windows Server is a brand name for a group of server operating system released by Microsoft. The first Server edition of Windows was Windows NT (New Technology) 3.1 Advanced Server (1993), then Windows NT 3.5 Server (1994), then Windows NT 3.51 Server (1995), then Windows NT 4.0 (1996) and Windows Server 2000 was launched in 2000.

• Windows Server 2003: –

“Windows Server 2008” is a Server Operating System and it was released on 25 April, 2003 by Microsoft.

• Windows Server 2008: –

“Windows Server 2008” is a server Operating System and it was released on 27 February, 2008.

• Windows Server 2012: –

“Windows Server 2012” is a Server Operating System and it was released on 4 September, 2012.

• Windows Server 2016: –

“Windows Server 2016” is a Server Operating System and it was released on 12 October, 2016.

• Windows Server 2019: –

“Windows Server 2019” is the latest version of the Windows Server Operating System by Microsoft and it was launched on 2 October, 2018.
